Remote Management Service enables authorized users to perform detailed configuration of NAS devices via the Remote Setting Connection App tool* from remote locations, including accessibility and data management options. This feature delivers a secure and streamlined method for multiple staff (management or maintenance) to access and manage NAS devices from remote locations. No more managing complex travel schedules - advanced configurations are initiated remotely to save you time and travel costs!

*Windows only

Remote Configuration Supported Series: TS5020, TS3020, TS3030, TS5010, TS6000

Refer to our Knowledge Base article on remote configuration for more information.

Remote Management Service also enables simple remote device operations to further streamline management and reduce onsite visits, significantly cutting down on time and travel costs. Remote operations do not require an additional app to operate.

Remote Operations

Unit Restart and Shutdown - You can remotely restart or shutdown immediately, or at a scheduled time.

Firmware Updates - By keeping your TeraStation up to date you can be safe from vulnerabilities or add the latest features.

Acquire Debug Logs - You can share debug logs with Buffalo’s after-sales support for more precise troubleshooting.

Initiate Device Beeping - This helps you identify the unit from the other TeraStations at the site.

Flexible Administrator Authority for Streamlined Task Assignment

NAS management often require multiple users to access it. Remote Management Service enables multiple users to access and manage a Buffalo NAS device, and provides hierarchical user roles with different privileges so you can assign multiple users to the same device based on logistical needs.

For example, you can give an MSP sales member and a technical support member the ability to monitor the same customer NAS device to ensure it runs smoothly, or have a technician maintain and troubleshoot multiple devices in different locations from the same console. This preserves secure device access while preventing the need to schedule multiple on-site visits.

Monitor and Manage Multiple Devices From a Single Console

Remote Management Service allows you to monitor the operational status of multiple devices and the drives within, all from a single console to significantly ease the burden of device management. You can also choose to receive real time email notifications of when operational events or if device/drive errors occur, and create configuration files that contain the device settings information that you can use to easily replace a device should it fail to mitigate downtime. You can also share device information, such as sending debug logs to technical support.

Secure Remote NAS Access

Remote Management Service uses TLS-encrypted communication for security, and requires no special network settings as long as your environment is capable of HTTPS communication. To ensure secure access, Remote Management Service only sends and receives the system status information used for device management and does not include any customer data stored on the TeraStation. You can also securely initiate remote configuration* of your NAS. For additional security, you can enable two-factor authentication (2FA) and require mandatory 2FA at login for users who belong to the same company.

While other NAS manufactuers can view data during remote access, Buffalo cannot view or access your files during remote device access so your data remains strictly private, enabling compliance with common regulations such as HIPAA.

*Remote configuration uses Remote Settings Connection App (Windows-only) to establish a secure connection.
