Configuring TeraStation 3-5-7 series backup

Configure a Shared folder on the target TeraStation

  1. Log in to Settings for the TeraStation.
  2. From the "File Sharing" tab, click on the widget to the right of "Folder Setup".

  1. A list of currently-configured folders will be displayed. Click Create Folder on the upper left to create a new folder that will be the target for the Backup job.

  1. Name the new folder. Disable the "Recycle Bin" for this folder because enabled recycle bins on the source will get backup over anyway. Be sure to check the option for "Backup" as this will designate the folder as a target for backup or replication.

  1. Setup the Backup Device Access Key for data secure, so that the share folder will not show up as a backup source or destination on any other TeraStation unless they have the Access Key. Click OK.

Note: Starting from TS5020/3030 firmware version v3.00, it is mandatory to set a backup access key for a backup target share folder.

  1. It will take us to the tab for setup the key. Enter the desired Backup Device Access Key and click OK.

Note: TS5020/3030 series starting from firmware version v3.00, the backup access key requires 8 - 20 characters.

  1. The new folder should now be included in the folder list. Click Close on the lower right. Target configuration is now complete.

Configure the Backup Job on the source TeraStation

Note: If the backup target TeraStation is not a TS5020/3030 with firmware version v3.00 or later, enable this TLS option from Management > Security/Encryption Settings to allow the communication.

  1. Open Settings on the source TeraStation and log in. From the "Backup" tab, click the widget to the right of "Backup.

  1. This screen will list existing Backup job. Click Set and enter the Backup Device Access Key which you have configured on the Backup destination folder.

  1. Enter the key that was setup at the target TeraStation share and click OK.

Note: TS5020/3030 series starting from firmware version v3.00, requires the backup access key to be 8 - 20 characters. So it is also required to setup the corresponding target's backup access key to be 8 - 20 characters regardless the target model and firmware is.

  1. Click "Create" to create a new backup job.

  1. Give the job a name and select a schedule.

  1. Select the "Operation Mode" (Backup Mode). For example we will choose Full backup.

For details about the Backup Modes, please refer to the User Manual.

For Snapshot backup and iSCSI backup, please refer to the following KB:

  1. Select other options as desired. Default settings are shown.
Click Add to add a source and destination folder for the backup.

Note: TS5020/3030 series starting from firmware version v3.00, "Encrypted data transport" for backups/replications is now the default selection for new setup jobs.
