Recovering a 3010/3020/5010/6000/5020/3030/7010 series TeraStation in Drive Setup Mode


In the event of a boot problem or other OS failure the OS can be reloaded by using the Drive setup mode.

NOTE: This process may be data destructive. If you do not have a current backup of critical data on the TeraStation and wish to retrieve the data, please contact a data recovery service such as DriveSavers for assistance with recovering the data.

 

Recovering OS using existing Hard drives

  1. Press and hold the power button for 3 seconds to turn off the TeraStation.
  2. Make sure all hard drives are installed properly. Keep power cable and network cable connected. Make sure TeraStation will be able to get a DHCP IP address and accessed by another PC.
  3. Turn the TeraStation on while holding down the Function button. Release the Power button but continue to hold down the function button for 10 seconds.

  1. Wait for the boot process to complete, which the power LED will change from blinking to glowing. TeraStation should boot in to “Drive Setup Mode”.  Which LCD will show “I61 Drive Setup Mode
  2. Access the TeraStation WEBUI using NAS Navigator2 or the IP address showing on the LCD. The Drive Setup mode interface will appear.
  3. The following message would appear if OS is detected on the hard drive. If you still want to proceed the OS recovery, click OK.

 

  1. Select the drive to install the firmware as “Primary Drive” (Default is Drive 1 and should be the only option available)
    Make sure that “Recover firmware” is selected under “Action”, then click "Start Setup".

Note: There are two more options for “Action” other than “Recover firmware”. The details for all options are below:

• Use the drive's firmware: The TeraStation will boot using the firmware on the drive.
• Recover firmware: The TeraStation will be recovered using the firmware on the NAND flash.
• Format drive: The drive will be formatted.

 

  1. On the “Confirm Operation” window, enter the confirmation number, then click OK.

  1. The Firmware reinstalling process will take a few minutes.

 

  1. Firmware is reinstalled. Click OK and the TeraStation will shut down automatically.

 

  1. After TeraStation shuts down, press the power Button to turn it on. TeraStation should boot up normally.

Note:
• If the error was not recovered from after trying the procedure above, try again from the first step.
This time, make sure you select the checkbox for “Revert the settings to those of the last boot” and click OK.
This will reinstall the firmware by reverting settings to those from the last boot.

 

 

 

Recovering OS when all drives are using new Hard drives.

  1. Press and hold the power button for 3 seconds to turn off the TeraStation.
  2. Make sure all hard drives are installed properly. Keep power cable and network cable connected. Make sure TeraStation will be able to get a DHCP IP address and accessed by another PC.
  3. Turn the TeraStation on while holding down the Function button. Release the Power button but continue to hold down the function button for 10 seconds.

 

  1. Wait for the boot process to complete, which the power LED will change from blinking to glowing. TeraStation should boot in to “Drive Setup Mode”.  Which LCD will show “I61 Drive Setup Mode

  1. Select the drive to install the firmware as “Primary Drive” and make sure that “Format Drive” is selected under “Action”, then click Start Setup.
