Configuring Power Management options on an LS520D

Last Updated: 10/14/2024

We highly recommend to connect a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) to the Buffalo NAS.
UPS is a backup power device that allows the Buffalo NAS to continue operating for a short time if power failure occurs.
Sudden power failure might cause NAS to have data corruption/data loss, or even hardware damage.
When UPS Sync with NAS shutdown feature is configured on Buffalo NAS, it helps prevent data loss by giving the Buffalo NAS enough time to safely shutdown when power outage occurs.

  1. Open the LinkStation GUI and click on the settings icon in the quick launch panel.
  2. In settings click on the “Power Management” icon under “System”.
  3. In the “Drive Sleep” tab you can set the timeout for when the unit will spin down the hard drives.
  4. This is the number of minutes the system must be idle before the drives spin down. A setting of “0” disables drive spin down. Click the “Save” button to apply changes.
  5. On the “System Sleep” tab you can set times for the entire unit to sleep, such as during expected off hours.
  6. You can have the unit sleep every night or once a week for a specified period of time. Click the “Save” button to apply changes.
  7. The “UPS Sync” tab allows you to sync the LinkStation with a USB connected UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply).
  8. Click the radio button to sync the LinkStation with a connected UPS and determine the behavior of the LinkStation and the UPS. Click the “Save” button to apply changes.
