How to back up the data on an LS520D

Last Updated: 10/14/2024

  1. Open the LinkStation GUI and click on the settings icon in the quick launch panel.
  2. In settings, click the “Backup” icon under “System”.
  3. The new job window opens automatically. First, give the job a name.
  4. Select the frequency, either Daily or Weekly.
  5. For Weekly backups set a day and time. For Daily backups only the time is necessary. The time is on a 24 hour clock. 0 is midnight.
  6. This backup job will run once a week at 1:00 AM every Sunday.
  7. Select the type of backup you want to run.
    1. Differential: The first backup job runs like a full backup. The backed up data will be stored under the automatically-created folder of the job name. As each additional backup job runs, files are added to and deleted from the backup folder. The backup destination folder will always be the same size as the backup source folder.
    2. Incremental: The first backup job runs like a full backup. The backed up data will be stored under the automatically-created folder of the job name. In subsequent backups, files added to the source as well as files deleted from the source are kept in the backup folder.
    3. Full Backup:  All files in the source will be backed up to the destination. Whenever the backup job runs, the folder with the name as the date when the backup job runs will be created automatically and the backed up data will be stored here.
  8. Select the source folder for the backup by clicking “Browse” next to “Source”.
  9. Select the destination for the backup by clicking “Browse” next to “Destination”. The destination can be a different folder on the LinkStation or an external USB drive (recommended).
  10. Once you have everything set as desired click the “Save” button.
  11. The new backup job should be listed. You can now close all windows.
