How to configure RAID on an LS520D

Last Updated: 10/14/2024

This procedure will delete all data currently stored on the LinkStation!

  1. Open the LinkStation GUI and click on the disk manager icon in the quick launch panel.
  2. In the disk manager click on “RAID”.
  3. In RAID, click on “Array 1”.
  4. To change the RAID type, first delete the existing RAID by clicking “Delete”. All existing data will be deleted!
  5. You will be asked to confirm that you want to delete the array and all the data on the LinkStation.
  6. You must acknowledge that all data will be lost.
  7. Once the array is deleted you should get this message.
  8. To create a new array, click the “Create RAID Array” button.
  9. Select the desired RAID mode. The default is RAID 1, which will mirror the data on both drives. This will provide redundancy in the event of a single drive failure and will result in 50% of the space on the LinkStation being used for redundancy. RAID 0 stripes the data across both drives and will result in 100% of the space being available but will result in total data loss in the event of a single drive failure. Linear mode will simply fill one drive at a time as data is saved to the LinkStation. This will also make 100% of the space available but will result in data loss in the event of a single drive failure. RAID 1 is recommended.
  10. You should receive this warning again. At this point there should be no data on the drive to lose.
  11. The array creation process will take a variable amount of time depending on disk size.
  12. When the process is complete you should receive this message.
  13. Click the “Close” button. The new array is now ready for use.
